Tell us about you, your experience and time in the Middle East?
Been in the UAE for 32 years now. Loved every day of it. Ex-banker. Setup my own business about 15 years ago. Never looked back. Evolved over time more drastically then most. Was a Professor at a university, ex-banker, facilitator/trainer, sportsman and a serial entrepreneur. Many roles, many lifetimes. Currently managing 3 verticals, and looking into others as well. Always open to suggestion.
My time here? Enriching. Insightful. Adventurous. An eye opener. What a country. Safe, clean, advanced, friendly and multicultural. I recently realized I have over 70 nationalities as friends.
Every country goes through evolution, but with this country, its been a transformation. Incredible growth and break neck development. A model of human integration and peaceful co-existence.
How would you describe the culture of your business?
Our constant evolution into uncharted territories (multiple and disconnected business verticals) has provided adaptability, agility, resilience and flexibility beyond the norm. We are always open to collaboration, partnering, stretching and always ready to listen.
What are the biggest challenges in the next 5 years?
Evolving, as the world changes around us. Accepting change as a constant and embracing it.
The traditional competencies are making way for new ones and we must re-skill / up-skill to remain relevant and part of the onslaught of the future. Digital is one such competency which is absolutely critical now. The Pandemic showed us the urgency of this change. Everything moved on line and we need to re-invent ourselves to keep up with it. Businesses and jobs that did not exist just 5 years ago, are now mainstream. They say 85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 have not been invented yet and similarly, 50% of the jobs that exist today may not be there in 2030. New aspects pop up all around us (Busines model disruptors like Alibaba, AirBnB, Facebook, Uber etc., IoT, hyperloop, drones, blockchain, robotics, wearables, nano tech, urban agriculture, self drives etc. We must be agile and digitally literate to remain part of the world we are hurtling towards.
What are the skills and competencies that you would need to train in order to meet the region’s talent requirements?
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Emotional intelligence
What is your Philosophy?
Change is not only imminent, its good. Embrace it.
